Navigating Life

It can require some consideration and support to make life choices that are autism-friendly.

All too often, it is easy to assume you should keep up with the neurotypical norms of your life stage, with other people or their expectations.

If you are autistic, you will need to arrange your life in a way that supports sustained well-being.  This can mean moving towards your goals in a more paced way or with more support and flexibility.

If you are a young adult, the transition to adulthood can feel daunting and include lots of new challenges which can feel overwhelming and scary.

If you would like to think through how you can navigate your life, education and career in a way that fits with your autism needs, contact me.

Autism in Relationships

You may be wondering if your partner is autistic if they experience some of the features described previously and you may experience them as emotionally distant or insensitive to your emotional needs at times. This may be placing your relationship under strain.

If you think you may be autistic, you may feel confused by your partner’s reactions and requests, feel anxious to please them or feel the need to withdraw from the intensity of their emotional expression.

It can be worrisome caring about someone whose autism needs require additional adjustment and support.

You may feel as though others do not quite understand the unique needs of your loved one and you may be tired of the considerable effort involved in trying to harness external support.

If you care about an adult who has autism and would like support to help them, contact me.

Sometimes this can be a helpful step before the autistic person is ready to engage in their own therapy or autism support work or may be more about supporting your family in understanding and adapting to their autism needs.
